The roman bridge

Probably built under Trajan’s reign, the bridge over the River Tormes was part of the Via de la Plata, one of three Roman roads that linked Emerita Augusta (Mérida) with Cesar Augusta (Zaragoza) and Astorga.

From 176 meters long, has 26 arches, but only 15 of the originals built in the first century remains.

Beside him there is the pre-Roman sculpture of a decapitated bull against the blind man collides the Lazarillo’s head, as it’s told in the novel.
